The Daily Freeman recently published an article on activists and officials rallying for a Central Hudson takeover after a long history of rate increases and environmental issues.
Excerpt from the article:
“Local officials and activists rallied Friday, supporting the Hudson Valley Power Authority Act, which, if passed, would replace Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. with a publicly-owned power authority for the Mid-Hudson Valley.
Present at the rally, held in front of the office of Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha, D-Esopus, on Washington Avenue, were Shrestha, state Sen. Michelle Hinchey, D-Saugerties, and Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger.
Shrestha said that bill would authorize a publicly-owned Hudson Valley Power Authority to purchase Central Hudson. She cited Central Hudson’s previous rate increases as well as environmental issues as reasons for the proposed takeover.”
