CESH faculty members Gabriel Perron and Eli Dueker, and Bard Alum Beckett Lansbury ’16 recently published a groundbreaking study outlining the connection between bacteria in the freshwaters of the Saw Kill and the leaves of trees along the waterway. The findings from this study are the first known explorations of how water quality of a freshwater stream can affect the microbiomes and health of nearby vegetation, including trees, through the movement of water bacteria through the air. This work was funded by the Hudson River Foundation’s Polgar Fund and the Bard Summer Research Institute.
